A striking vintage 1960's knitted suit by famed designer Pierre Balmain. Labelled 'Les Tricots Pierre Balmain, Paris, Made in France'. The jacquard knit mixes metallic gold, black and rich red in an ornate pattern, which suggests Russian or folkloric inspirations. The boxy jacket has double sets of black covered buttons, edged either side of the placket with chunky black and metallic gold braid trim. The same metallic braid trims the jacket cuffs, and the hem and waistband of the softly flared skirt. A wonderful suit.
Excellent to very good condition, there are two barely there, very light small marks, one to the skirt and one to the jacket front placket, only noted on very close inspection. Tiny amount of wear to the braid trim at the back skirt zip edge - again only noticeable upon close scrutiny, but mentioning for accuracy.
